About Us

Chrysalis House is a non-profit, community-based organization that provides free, confidential services, such as transitional shelter, outreach, supportive counselling, advocacy, and support services for women and children impacted by intimate partner violence and abuse.

The name Chrysalis reflects the natural stage in a butterfly's life cycle where transformation occurs in a place of protection and stillness. This reflects our belief that with safety and support, new beginnings are possible.

We support women who have experienced psychological, emotional, physical, sexual, financial, and coercive forms of abuse, while recognizing  the complex barriers many women face when seeking safety and support.

Our work is grounded in trauma-informed, feminist, and client-centred practices. We believe every woman and child has the right to live free from violence, fear, and control, and we committed to creating safe, supportive spaces where dignity, choice, and respect are prioritized.

Located in Annapolis Valley, Chrysalis House provides services throughout Kings and Annapolis Counties, as well as West Hants. Our transitional shelter operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, offering free and confidential services to women and children. Women may access services whether or not they choose to stay at the shelter.

In addition to transitional shelter, we provide outreach support, advocacy, supportive counselling, children's programming, public education, and community collaboration aimed at addressing and preventing gender-based violence.
