Harbour House serves Lunenburg and Queens Counties.
About Us
Harbour House offers shelter, counselling, and other support to women as they transition and explore options for their lives during or after an experience of domestic violence. We are located on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, in Bridgewater, offering services throughout Lunenburg and Queens Counties.
Our Services
Shelter
We have 15 beds for women and children, including an accessible bedroom. Families will stay in the same room and women without dependents may share bedroom space.
We have a comfortable environment, with living space and access to Transition House Workers 24 hours a day. We work alongside every woman and child who comes into the shelter to help them along their journey. We can help by providing supportive counselling, housing assistance, connection to the community, resources and support throughout the legal processes.
Outreach
Our Outreach team members are available to women throughout Lunenburg and Queens counties, at nine different locations. This makes it easy to get support where you are. Our outreach team can provide supportive counselling, advocacy, and support in navigating the justice system. Outreach is also available to provide education sessions to employers or community groups that educate on the impacts of gender-based violence.
School Programs
Our Child and Youth team provides outreach in nine schools in Lunenburg and Queens, presenting one-day and ongoing workshops to students from grade primary through high school. Topics include healthy boundaries, self-respect, healthy relationships, consent, anger management, bullying and peer pressure.
Child and Youth Counselling
The Child and Youth Workers provide support to children and their mothers residing in the House. They encourage and support parenting skills, and they are available for one-on-one counselling with parents or youth. Supportive counselling can be offered on-site, in schools or in the community.
